Revealed at the 2016 Paris Motor Show in September last year, the production of the fifth-generation Micra has started at Renault's plant in France. Based on the Renault-Nissan alliance's CMF-B platform, the new Nissan Micra has sharper and bolder styling. This is the first Nissan car to be manufactured in a factory operated by Renault and its deliveries will begin in the European markets in mid-February. Although the Nissan Micra wasn't a hit in India, it is quite popular in the international market, with more than seven million units being sold worldwide.

The new hatchback is longer, wider and lower than its predecessor, and looks completely different. It features elements from Nissan's current design language, like the distinctive V-motion grille, sharp character line running across the length of the vehicles, floating roof (kink in the C-pillar) and boomerang-shaped lights. It has a flat-bottom steering wheel, a dual-pod with a large MID screen and a seven-inch infotainment system that supports satellite navigation, downloadable apps and Siri voice control via Apple CarPlay. It also features a BOSE Personal audio system that includes speakers built into the driver’s head rest for a 360° sound experience.

The new Micra will be powered by one diesel and two petrol engines. While the turbocharged 0.9-litre petrol engine produces 90PS of power and 140Nm of torque, the 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol churns out 73PS/95Nm. The 1.5-litre diesel engine has power figures of 90PS/220Nm. All three engines are coupled to a five-speed manual transmission. There hasn't been any official statement regarding its launch in the Indian market. However, there are good chances of its introduction here by the end of next year. If launched, it will compete with premium hatchbacks like the Maruti Baleno and the Honda Jazz.
