Nissan Sunny Automatic Launches in India
Nissan India has silently launched an automatic variant of its flagship sedan Sunny in India. The automatic version of Sunny is equipped with a Continuously variable Transmission (CVT) supplied by the Japanese auto-major known as the X-Tronic CVT. It is the same automatic transmission that also does duty in its sibling Renault Scala automatic. The CVT transmission is available only in the mid XL variant of the Sunny and is priced at Rs. 8.49 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi). The engine remains the same, and powered by the 1.5 litre petrol engine that is capable of generating 99.6bhp as against 97bhp in the manual version.
Nissan Sunny automatic will offer a class-leading fuel economy of 17.97 kmpl (ARAI Certified), which is slightly more then its closest competitor the Ford Fiesta DCT automatic, which claims to offer a fuel efficiency of 16.97kmpl. It is also speculated that Nissan will also use the similar CVT transmission in the upcoming new Micra, which is expected to be launched by the festive season, Diwali. As per the company's "Global 88" strategy, Nissan expects to achieve 8 per cent market share by 2016 and an 8% growth on consolidated operating profits. Talking about India, the company is hoping 10 per cent market share by 2016 from the current 1.6 per cent.
