Update (02/12/2020): Nissan has launched the Magnite with prices beginning from Rs 4.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Read more about it here.

  • Showroom-ready Nissan Magnite spotted ahead of unveiling.

  • The model looks like a top-spec unit with LED headlights and machine-finished alloy wheels.

  • The Magnite is likely to be powered by a 1.0-litre petrol engine from Triber and a new turbocharged version of the same.

  • Expect features like an 8-inch touchscreen, connected tech, fully digital instrument cluster and cruise control.

  • The top-spec Nissan Magnite might command the most affordable price tag among the rivals.

Nissan India will be jostling for space in the heavily crowded sub-4m SUV space when it launches the Magnite. As it seems from the recent set of spy images, the manufacturer might have mobilised some models for the official shoot ahead of the October 21 reveal.

The upcoming Nissan Magnite is a make or break product for the brand. It’s a good thing then that it looks attention-worthy with similarities to the Magnite concept. Spy shots reveal a big, black front grille with chrome outlines, a redesigned Nissan badge in the centre, LED lighting for the fang-shaped daytime running lamps and headlamps. The lower variants are likely to make do with halogen headlamps. Other visible details include machine-finished alloy wheels, side cladding, floating roof, and dual-tone rear bumper along with wraparound tail lamps.

Features on offer could include an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, fully digital instrument cluster, connected technologies, cruise control and probably, a sunroof too. The interior layout can’t be seen in these pictures but given that it borrows the exterior design heavily from the concept, the same can be expected inside as well.

The Magnite will be a petrol-only offering like several of its rivals. Expect a 72PS 1.0-litre unit from the Triber along with a more powerful turbocharged version for the higher trims that could belt out 100PS. A 5-speed manual will be standard with a CVT option for the turbo version on offer as well.

The work’s cut out for the Nissan Magnite as it will enter what might seem like a Royal Rumble ring filled with a lot of heavyweights. It will rival the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV300, Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon, Maruti Vitara Brezza, and even its upcoming sibling the Renault Kiger.
