The Rs 4,500 Crore Oragadam plant boasted a production of staggering 103,437 units during April 2011-January 2012 which includes Nissan’s Micra, Sunny and Renault’s Fluence, Koleos and Pulse. On the other hand an impressive 84,416 units of Nissan Micra were exported. A new production line is expected to double production to 4, 00,000 vehicles per year. The decision was prompted by an increased demand in global market for products built in India as explained by Kiminobu Tokuyama, MD, Nissan Motor India in an interview.

Tokuyama also revealed that Nissan Micra has sold 30,000 units since its launch and that they are collaborating with vendors to expand the market of Nissan Micra by making people test drive Nissan Micra. In parallel, Nissan is targeting production of diesel versions of Micra and Sunny with mainly locally procured components and minimal imported components. Ramping up production, marketing vigorously, doubling dealership network to 100 outlets, increasing local input in diesel engine powered cars and soon unveiling new MUV Nissan Evalia has made Nissan confident of achieving domestic sales of 40,000 units by the end of this fiscal. Not a far shot as Nissan has already recorded sales of 22,000 units.
