Tata-owned Land Rover is considering a new Range Rover model to sit in-between their Range Rover Evoque and Sport models, claims an Australian magazine. The report suggests that the company sees an opportunity for a new model which can fill that gap, while, currently the British marque has a stable of three SUVs- a mid-size Evoque, larger Sport and the range-topping Range Rover flagship.

This new offering will target the buyers who prefer a five-seat vehicle larger than the Evoque but not as big as the Sport. And will most likely be based on the modified platform of Evoque, which also underpins the Land Rover Discovery Sport.

At the recently-concluded New York International Auto Show (2015 NYIAS), Gerry McGovern, Design Director Land Rover, said “there are a couple of ‘white space’ opportunities in the model lineup of Range Rover, which are yet to be explored.” Though he also notified that ‘we will see something new from Land Rover at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show in September,’ there’re almost negligible chances of that being the new SUV in question. As it will take at least three years to arrive in flesh, and will likely be previewed by a concept in the years to come.
