Mercedes to phase out Maybach brand in 2013

A recent update from Mercedes-Benz states that they are most likely to discontinue their high end luxury marque Maybach from 2013. For the starters, cars offered by Maybach India, though not as popular as other Mercedes Benz cars in India, are well-known for its 57 S and 62 S models globally. The Maybach car news is not something of child’s play and can be disposed off quite easily. Until now, they are ideal competitors of nothing less than Rolls-Royce and Bentley cars under the shelter of BMW and Volkswagen respectively. However, the revenue generated by the cars are far less than the input costs.

The sales volumes have suffered drastically during the recent past. Now, after a focused study Dieter Zetsche, the chairman of Mercedes-Benz opines that the German marque is better discontinued than to head for a makeover due in 2014. The gap will be filled by the Mercedes-Benz S-Class soon after Maybach is phased out. Way back in 1997, Mercedes- Benz showcased the first Maybach concept car at the Tokyo Motor show. After certain ups and downs the Maybach was re-introduced as a separate entity altogether in 2002. This is how the limousine tradition began across the globe with Mercedes-Benz to credit for its authenticity. The limousines 57 and 62 have got their name based on the length of the car, from which they are identified.

The Maybach 57 S model carries a length of 5730 mm and the Maybach 62 S model has an overall length of 6170 mm. So, this is how the story of limousines from Mercedes-Benz’s Maybach marque will see an unfortunate end. The only compensation is the introduction of the next generation versions of the popular Mercedes-Benz S-Class in its place. The S-Class is thought to be offered in three versions. Out of which, the posh S600 Pullman is quite renowned  across the world. To cap it all, Mercedes-Benz finds it more productive to invest on something where better results are expected like, S-Class for instance.
