Maruti Suzuki to Rule the Rural India
Maruti Suzuki, the Indian auto giant is now targeting the rural market after witnessing a total growth of 55% in sales in June, which has helped the MSI to take its rural market share up to 33%. Where currently every third vehicle of the company is sold in the rural market, they are eyeing to take it up to 50 per cent by 2015-16. It is not just a claim, the recently opened 23 new outlets in small towns show the company's commitment towards it.
As a matter of the fact, the company initiated its Rural market initiative long back in 2007, under which they worked on to seek the potential buyers in the rural India. Speaking about it, Managing executive officer, Marketing Sales, Mayan Pareek said, "Now, we have a reasonable base of rural sales and the 55% jump epitomises the strength of the Indian hinterland markets and villages.
We are developing new markets and generating customers who have never used cars in these smaller towns (and expecting them) to generate long-term competitive advantage." What must have surely inspired MSI to take these markets seriously is the fact, that the company's premium cars including SX4, Swift and the Dzire have been successful in bagging almost the similar sales numbers from the rural areas like urban markets.
