Mahindra NuvoSport

Mahindra has launched its latest compact SUV, the NuvoSport. Prices start at INR 7.35 lakhs (ex-showroom, Thane) for the base N4 variant. We took a guess at the price prior the launch, and we're happy to say we were close!

Variant-wise prices are as follows:

The NuvoSport replaces the Quanto in Mahindra's line-up. The design works upon the boxy look of the outgoing SUV to give it some much-needed flair. Updated elements include some cool- looking split headlamps, new front bumper and new alloy wheels. Just like the Maruti Vitara Brezza and the Ford EcoSport, the Mahindra too gets a healthy dose of black cladding on the lower half of the body. This helps it give that raised SUV look.

Mahindra NuvoSport Interiors

Just like the outgoing Quanto and the TUV300, the NuvoSport gets a 5+2 seating layout. While space on the first two rows is mega, the last row continues to disappoint. The interiors get a host of features to keep up with the times. The top-spec N8 variant gets a 6.2-inch touchscreen music system that supports Bluetooth, USB and FM. Other elements include a faux leather upholstery, tilt-adjust steering, steering-mounted controls and an aluminium finished pedals. The NuvoSport’s party-piece is the reclining second row. Neither the Vitara Brezza nor the Ford EcoSport have this feature. Boot space is rated at 412-litres, that can be expanded to 850-litres by folding the rear seat away. Overall, the NuvoSport continues to be as practical as the Quanto.

The NuvoSport retains the 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder engine from the Quanto. The diesel motor churns out 100bhp of power and 240Nm of torque. The ARAI-rated fuel efficiency stands at 17.45km/l. The power and torque figures are amongst the best in its class, surpassing the Vitara Brezza and the TUV300. This powerful mill is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. AMT is optional in the N6 and N8 variants.

On the safety front, ABS and  Airbags are optional on the base variant and standard across the rest. It is good to see manufacturers taking safety seriously. On similar lines, Maruti had recently announced optional airbags for the Alto range.

We will be driving the NuvoSport soon. Do stay tuned for an in-depth review. Think it looks better than the Quanto? Let us know in the comments section below!
