Currently, the Evoque and the Freelander2 are manufactured on Ford's EUCD platform. The company's Defender is based on a legendary platform that was developed in the 1940's. The previous generation Range Rover is developed on the BMW's X5 platform, while the new 2013 Range Rover is built on a lightweight D7 all-aluminum platform. Land Rover is likely to continue with the Ford EUCD platform and its in-house D7 platform for constructing future vehicles. The company will replace its products – Defender, Freelander and Discovery and will manufacture them on these two platforms.

The upcoming new Freelander that is going test rounds in Europe and the next-generation Discovery which is yet to put on roads for testing, will be based on the D7 platform. The next-generation Discovery will be launched by the next year and the new freelander3 will make its global debut this year. It is to be noticed that Freelander is the only Land Rover car assembled locally in India.

The Land Rover fans are eagerly waiting for the other two vehicles that are - the stretch-wheel base Evoque, which will be launched by the next year and will specially target the Chinese market. And the new Defender which will carry forward the legacy of the auto-major over the seven decades. Land Rover also have the option of developing new power-mills and platforms in alliance with its Chinese JV partner Chery, or with the parent company Tata Motors.
