    2026 Kia Sorento

Kia India has confirmed the debut date of the Sorento in India, which will be on September 4, 2026, and there are two firsts wrapped into this one launch: it's the brand's opening move into the premium three-row segment, and the first time a strong-hybrid powertrain shows up in a Kia sold here.

    Exterior

Above the Seltos, at the very top of the range, that's where Kia has placed the Sorento within its India lineup.

The India-spec styling is still under wraps. What we do know comes from the global model, which includes the 'Tiger Nose' grille up front, vertically arranged LED headlamps flanking it, and 'Star Map' LED daytime running lights completing the face. Add in pronounced shoulder lines and a squared-off body, and it reads as a fairly assertive shape. Sitting on a monocoque platform rather than a ladder frame also means it rides lower than something like the Fortuner, likely a plus for anyone driving it mostly in the city. Whether that translates into a genuine edge over rivals depends on dimensions and cabin quality, neither of which is locked down yet for India.

    Interior

Six seats or seven. Kia is leaving that choice to the buyer, and promising a properly upmarket cabin either way.

Pick seven seats, and the middle row comes as a bench. Drop to six, and that bench becomes a pair of captain's chairs instead. The dashboard itself is built around with a twin-screen layout: a 12.3 inches for the driver's display, another 12.3 inches for the touchscreen infotainment system. A panoramic sunroof rounds things off. It's not an easy segment to stand out in, though: both the Skoda Kodiaq and Jeep Meridian already do a solid job with their own interiors at similar money.

    Features and Safety

Level-2 ADAS is on the spec sheet, alongside a fairly loaded features list overall:

Two 12.3-inch displays for the infotainment and the driver’s display, and that panoramic sunroof. At this price, multi-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, wireless phone chargers, and connected-car features would all be reasonable expectations too.

Safety kit will include a 360-degree camera, electronic parking brake, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), hill-hold assist (HHA), and ADAS features may include adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring; put together, that's enough for a decent stretch of semi-autonomous highway driving.

    Powertrain Options

The Sorento will include two engines on offer and one of them is new territory for Kia in India: its first strong hybrid.

    2026 Kia Sorento Hybrid

This is the bit that actually separates the Sorento from everything else nearby. No other large three-row SUV sold in India currently offers a strong hybrid, and Kia's version pairs a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine with an electric motor for a combined 238 PS and 380 Nm. Fuel economy should benefit noticeably as a result. Diesel buyers aren't left out either. A 2.2-litre engine makes 202 PS and 441 Nm. Both come only with an automatic gearbox, and the monocoque platform should give the whole thing a more car-like driving character than a body-on-frame SUV like the Fortuner.

Launch Date, Expected Pricing and Rivals

September 4, 2026. Roughly from Rs 40 lakh (ex-showroom) to start. Those are the two numbers to remember.

Bookings are already live ahead of that date. Local assembly should help keep the final pricing in check, with Rs 40 lakh to Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom) being the working estimate. That puts the Sorento shoulder to shoulder with the Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron, and the diesel-only Jeep Meridian, all premium monocoque three-row SUVs. The body-on-frame Toyota Fortuner and MG Majestor sit in the same price band too.

    CarDekho Says…

There's a real chance this becomes one of Kia's most important India launches so far. Stack a premium three-row cabin and a strong-hybrid powertrain on top of each other, and you get an SUV entering a category that's traditionally forced a choice. Tough, body-on-frame trucks on one side, smoother monocoque options on the other. Get the pricing right, and Kia could genuinely disrupt that choice, simply because nobody else in the segment can currently match what it's offering: strong-hybrid efficiency in a full-size family SUV.
