Unlike Hyundai, which took nearly four years to turn the Carlino sub-4 metre SUV into the Venue, Kia has taken a much shorter time for the Sonet. Unveiled as a concept at the 2020 Auto Expo, it took Kia just six months to reveal the production model. But then again the difference between the two are few and far apart. So it may not have been all that different for Kia after all. What will be difficult for you though is getting your head around the feature list of the Sonet. Offered in two distinct trims: GT Line (top-spec) and Tech Line trims and multiple variants under each, picking the right variant is no easy task. So here’s a breakdown of all the variants and what they offer. But first, let’s get the routine stuff out of the way.

Colour Options

And lastly, before you finalise on a variant, you need to pick the right colour. The Sonet will be available in eight monotone colour schemes and three dual tone colour schemes.

The monotone colours are: red, gold, black, grey, silver, blue, white pearl and clear white. The dual tone colours are: red and black, gold and black, and white pearl and black.

Variants

HTE

The HT variant of the Sonet can only be had with the 1.2-litre petrol-manual and the 1.5-litre diesel-manual powertrain options.

Exterior: 15-inch steel wheels, wheel covers and pole type antenna.

Interior: Black interior, fabric seats, silver finish on AC vents and 3.5-inch mono colour MID.

Safety: Dual airbags, ABS with EBD and rear parking sensors.

Comfort and Convenience: Tilt adjustable steering wheel, front power windows, front and rear USB charging ports, electrically adjustable ORVMs, rear AC vents and front adjustable headrests.

HTK (In addition to HTE variant)

The HTK variant of the Sonet can only be had with the 1.2-litre petrol-manual and the 1.5-litre diesel-manual powertrain options.

Exterior: 16-inch steel wheel with metallic silver finish.

Interior: Semi-leatherette seats with white stitching.

Comfort and Convenience: Height adjustable driver seat, keyless entry, rear power windows, follow-me-home headlamps and sunglass holder. 

Infotainment and Connectivity: 2-DIN audio system, UVO Lite Bluetooth remote control app, steering-mounted audio controls and four speakers.

HTK+ (In addition to HTK)

The HTK+ variant of the Sonet can be had with all powertrain options. 

Exterior: Projector fog lamps, front and rear faux skid plate, roof rails, shark fin antenna, LED turn signals on ORVMs and chrome on radiator grille.

Interior: Leatherette wrapped gear knob (automatic only).

Safety: ESC, HAC, VSM, Brake Assist and Traction control modes (only with 7-speed DCT).

Comfort and Convenience: Auto headlamps, auto climate control, electrically foldable ORVMs, driver auto up/down window with anti-pinch, rear defogger, rear parcel tray, reversing camera with guidelines (can be activated while moving forward also) and Multi-drive modes (7-speed DCT).

Infotainment and Connectivity: 8.0-inch touchscreen with ARKAMYS sound tuning, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, wireless phone projection (only with 8-inch touchscreen) and two tweeters.

HTX (In addition to HTK)

The HTX variant of the Sonet can only be had with the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol-iMT and the 1.5-litre diesel-manual powertrain options.

Exterior: Projector fog lamps, LED headlamps, LED DRLs with integrated indicators, LED tail lamps, front and rear faux skid plates, rear bumper with dual muffler design, roof rails, shark fin antenna, ORVMs with LED turn signals, chrome on radiator grille, chrome on outside door handles and silver garnish on doors.

Interior: Electric sunroof, beige and balck interior, silver stitching on seats, leatherette wrapped steering wheel with ‘Sonet’ logo and leatherette wrapped gear knob.

Safety: ISOFIX mounting points.

Comfort and Convenience: Auto headlamps, auto climate control, cruise control, remote engine start from smart key, electrically foldable ORVMs, driver auto up/down window with anti-pinch, rear defogger, rear parcel tray, rear seat armrest, reversing camera with guidelines (can be activated while moving forward also) and rear adjustable headrests.

Infotainment and Connectivity: 8.0-inch touchscreen with ARKAMYS sound tuning, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, wireless phone projection (only with 8-inch touchscreen) and two tweeters.

HTX+ (In addition to HTX)

The HTX+ variant of the Sonet can only be had with the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol-iMT and the 1.5-litre diesel-manual powertrain options.

Interior: Leatherette seats, LED sound mood lights and leatherette wrapped door trims.

Comfort and Convenience: Tyre pressure monitoring system, rear wiper and wash, ventilated front seats, air purifier with virus protection and 4.2-inch colour MID.

Infotainment and Connectivity: 10.25-inch touchscreen, UVO connected car technology with OTA map updates, BOSE seven-speaker sound system, smartwatch connectivity and AI voice recognition.

GTX+

And now for the meat of the story. The GT Line Sonet is available in only one variant, the GTX+. It can only be had with the turbo-petrol or the diesel engine. You are free to choose from all the transmission options available with the said engines though.

Exterior: LED headlamps, LED DRLs with integrated indicators, LED tail lamps, red brake calipers at the front, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels with red highlights, red accents on front bumper, front grille and rear bumper, front and rear faux skid plates, rear bumper with dual muffler design, roof rails, shark fin antenna, LED turn signal on ORVMs, chrome outside door handles and chrome on radiator grille. 

Interior: Electric sunroof, black cabin, leatherette seats with red stitching, leatherette wrapped steering with ‘GT Line’ logo, LED sound mood lights (syncs with music), metal finish on pedals, leatherette on door trims, leatherette wrapped gear knob and gloss black finish for the AC vents..

Safety: Six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, HAC, VSM, Brake Assist, ISOFIX mounting points, front parking sensors, projector fog lamps, tyre pressure monitoring system and traction control modes (automatic only).
