Jaguar’s new sports car in the making, to rival Porsche Boxster
Tata Motors subsidiary and British luxury car manufacturer Jaguar is all set to reveal its all-new sports car soon. The new Jaguar sports car is yet to be named but it has been codenamed as Jaguar XE. Spy shots of the new small roadster reveal that it will rival Porsche Boxster, BMW Z4, and the Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class. However, the new sports car is not expected to arrive in India until late 2012. Currently Jaguar has Jaguar XF, Jaguar XK and Jaguar XJ cars available in India.

Jaguar XE will be another example of Jaguar’s ‘expressing lightness’ and will be built wholly with aluminum. It is believed that this upcoming Jaguar car will lay a standard for all future Jaguar cars. There are unconfirmed reports that Jaguar XE will also feature a hybrid engine option apart from the V6 and V8 engines.

As the preliminary information about this new car, it is based on E-type with an emphasis on styling and lightweight construction. Also, the all aluminum car will be around 4.3 meter long and 450mm shorter than Jaguar XK cabriolet convertible. The width of the car would be same as the XK sister due to the restrains safety and the space occupied by the rear transmission.

The XE will be built at Jaguar’s car plant at Castle Bromwich in West central England. A V6 petrol engine in aspirated and supercharged forms will power XE. It is expected that it will also feature a turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine. It will be coupled with eight-speed automatic gearbox. With this combination in the new Jaguar car is expected to offer fuel economy with low emissions.A V8 engine is also expected for the high end variant of the new car. It is expected to arrive after the XE. There is no official confirmation about the diesel option.
