Honda mulls a new compact SUV?

Here we have some hot news concerning the Japanese car manufacturer Honda Motors. It is just a flying rumour, but has the potential to make a substantial news, if the plans are well formulated. It’s just a comment from Honda’s CEO Takanobu Ito which has fuelled the speculations. Coming to the point, Honda Motors is apparently toying with the idea of a compact SUV keeping the European market in the mind. According to Takanobu, it is the Nissan’s Qashkai SUV that has inspired Honda Motors to consider a similar vehicle for the global markets.

He himself had said that they are quite impressed by the Nissan’s success in the compact SUV segment. If luck favours, Honda might introduce the compact Honda SUV in India. India launch could be likely as Honda already has a 1.6 L diesel powertrain ready for the Honda Civic sedan. So, the auto major need not rack their brains over a diesel engine exclusively for the Indian car market to power the Compact SUV. Moreover, if we take the Honda’s product line-up in the Indian car market, the Honda CR-V is the only vehicle to mark its presence in the SUV segment. Honda India offers right from a low-cost Honda Brio to well-equipped Honda Jazz in the hatchback segment.

Honda’s dominance in the C-segment and D-segment cars is unbeatable where each of its product has managed to carve a niche for itself in the domestic and global markets alike. Now, the proposed compact SUV would be perfect from the Japanese car manufacturer. However, its too early as of now for the auto major to make the news public just as yet. Early next year is going to bring us some new compact SUVs from well-established car manufacturers. The Mahindra Xylo Mini is one which can be counted upon given the success of Xylo in the country. Ford Ecosport is another where Ford India is also looking to make a debut in the compact SUV segment which is slowly gaining traction in the country.
