Honda India reports a sales decline of 3.54% in July 2010

It seems like Japan based leading car maker Honda Motors is feeling the heat in the Indian market due to the increasing influence of its competitors and lowering down sales of its cars in India. The Honda Siel Cars India, a subsidiary of this leading Japanese car maker has reported a fall of 3.54 per cent in its sales in the country. The company sold a total of 4,685 units in the month of July, 2010 as compared to the 4,857 units sold in the same same period last year.

The flagship starting range sedan Honda City remained the best selling model in the company's India portfolio with clocking sales of 3,565 units during this month. The launch of Hyundai Verna Transform in the Indian market has raised the competition for Honda City, which has been ruling this price segment since its launch in the Indian market. At present, the Honda city model is giving a tough fight to some of the most popular cars of this segment including Fiat Linea, Maruti SX4, Ford Fiesta and Tata Manza.

The sales of company's premium hatchback Honda Jazz stood at 514 units, which is comparatively very less when compared to the huge sales of it competitors like Hyundai i20 and Maruti Swift. The Jazz model is the highest priced car in the premium car segment.

With this, Honda Civic, the popular Premium sedan in the Indian market, clocked sales of 371 units. The sales of Honda Civic have suffered significantly due to the launch of Toyota Corolla Altis in the diesel version last month, as the former is available in only petrol version in the country.

Among the other portfolio models of Honda India, the sales of luxury sedan Honda Accord stood at 192 units while the sales of sports utility vehicle (SUV) Honda CR-V stood at 43 units.
