Honda City regains top spot

With so many other sedans in the Indian car market, such as Volkswagen Vento and Hyundai Verna Fluidic, Honda City had almost lost in the competition of the monthly sales. But now Honda City is back with a bang. Honda City has managed to get back to the top spot and is now ahead of both Volkswagen Vento and Hyundai Verna Fluidic. According to the figures and statistics, Honda India sold around 5,819 units of Honda City in the month of August, whereas Hyundai India sold about 4,211 units of Hyundai Verna Fluidic. On the other hand, Volkswagen sold 3,019 units of Volkswagen Vento. In the month of March 2011, Volkswagen literally took over the midsized premium sedan segment of the Indian car market. In that month, Volkswagen India sold about 3,973 units of Volkswagen Vento against 2,773 units of Honda City.

Since that time, Honda India was trying its level best to curb the sliding sales and slashed the price of Honda City. The company slashed down the Honda City price by Rs. 66000 by executing numerous cost reduction measures. According to the senior VP of marketing sales of Honda India, Mr. Jnaneswar Sen, Honda India is now aiming to work on 50% of the capacity because of the commotion in the supply of the components from Japan. Now, things are almost under control. Company is trying to boost up the localization of the content of the Honda Brio and further working on the cost reduction techniques for models like Honda City.

The major reason why new cars like Volkswagen Vento and Hyundai Verna Fluidic were ahead in the competition was because these cars are also available in diesel variants, on the other Honda City is not offered in the diesel variant. According to the reports, about 80% of the sales of other sedans are comprise of diesel versions. But after a long wait, Honda managed to revive the sliding sales of its flagship City and has regained the top spot.
