Honda City facelift delayed, could be launched during 2012 Auto Expo

In contrary to the earlier speculations regarding the 2012 Honda City launch in mid November, the sedan is likely to be introduced at the 2012 Auto Expo in January. This delay is due to the recent floods in Thailand, which is the auto manufacturing hub for Honda Motors. Honda’s manufacturing units in Thailand are unable to cope up with the demand for the components from its other production units across the world to roll out the cars. Despite the company’s effort to have the sedans last until the Honda City facelift launch in January, the shortage of components supply is likely to curb their plans.

The new Honda City is not likely to come with a major transformation except for few minor cosmetic changes to endow a new look to the sedan. Slightly redesigned front lamps, grille and minor changes in the tail lamps are the few modifications known yet. However, an ECO indicator on the instrument panel to warn the user about the limited fuel in the fuel tank is reported. After the recent discounts offered by the company, the Honda City sales have reached the peak and evolved to be one of the best-selling cars in the segment. The outgoing Honda City comes affixed with a 1.5 L i-VTEC petrol engine mated with a 5-speed manual gearbox churning out a peak power of 118 PS. The sedan with the Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) technology offers the mileage of 14 kmpl in the city and 17 kmpl on the highways.

The Indian launch is however, slated to take place towards the second half of 2012. Furthermore, Honda Siel Cars have stopped the production of the Honda Brio and Honda Jazz hatchbacks due to the lack of components supply from the Thailand manufacturing plants. Honda Motors have offered up to Rs 1.5 lakhs cash discount on the Honda Jazz to ramp up the dipping sales.
