Honda City becomes top seller once again after a year

Once again the most dominant sedans of the Indian car market, Honda City has regained its top spot after a year’s time. Last year, Honda City was outpaced by its arch rival, Hyundai Verna Fluidic and Volkswagen Vento. Honda Motors resumed its regular production of Honda City last month after March 2011. In February 2012, the firm managed to sell about 6052 units of Honda City leaving behind the crest sales of 4500 units per month of Hyundai Verna. As per the senior VP of sales and marketing, Honda Siel Cars India, Mr. Jnaneswar Sen, it is pretty well known that Honda City has always been the most desirable and inspirational car in the country and the launch of the 2012 Honda City in December has received an awe-inspiring response from the customers.

Honda City’s major competition was Volkswagen Vento, which became the top seller last year by selling 3973 cars in March 2011. Vento being offered in diesel engine has an edge over the City sedan which is offered in petrol variant only. But rumors suggest that Honda Motors will launch the diesel variant of Honda City by 2013. The new City sedan looks more compelling with cutting edge looks, the sedan comes with redesigned tail lamps and bumpers along with the very stylish sunroof. What adds more charm to the sedan is its sliced price which starts at Rs. 6.99 lakh instead of Rs. 7.49 lakh.

When enquired about the prospect of retaining the high class sales, Mr. Sen mentioned that Honda City sales in Feb 2011 were not steady because the production was not staedy. Right now, various components of Honda City are being sourced from China and Japan and not from Thailand. The firm is still not making sufficient production of Honda Jazz and Honda Brio as the total monthly production is about 10000 units. Honda was snowed down by the sad and unfortunate natural calamities, including the earthquake in Japan in March 2011 and the Tsunami in Nov 2011, which destructed the entire component supply chain.
