Hatchback segment to heat up with Etios Liva launch

Toyota India is all set to give a hard hitting fight to Maruti India's compact cars, such as Maruti Swift. Toyota is here with its hatchback car,Toyota Etios Liva. It could literally be a threat to Maruti as Toyota Etios Liva lands in the same price range as of Maruti Swift. Maruti currently holds around 2/3rd of the India Auto Market and Toyota Etios Liva might give a tough fight to Maruti.

The initial version of Toyota Etios Liva is expected to be available at a price tag of Rs. 3.99 Lakh, which is a little less than Maruti Ritz petrol variant and Maruti Swift. According to the figures, Maruti Swift currently has 35% of the hatchback segment, whereas Hyundai i20 grabs approximately 20% of the same segment.

Maruti India comprises of 65% of the share in the compact car segment, where out of 15 models, eight of them are compact cars. Around 80% of the total cars currently being sold in the country are compact cars. If figures are taken into account, Maruti managed to sell around 11.32 Lakh units in the financial year of 2011. Keeping this in mind, Toyota has kept the price of Toyota Etios Liva within Rs. 4 Lakh, which is counted amongst the most affordable hatchback cars in India.

There is only one small car, which is available for Rs. 3.59 Lakh, and that is Ford Figo petrol variant. Presently, the market of premium hatchback cars is the most flourishing and booming one in the country. Around 2.5 million hatchback and compact cars are sold every year in India Auto market. Toyota is already very thriving in the multi-utility vehicle sector and a little less in cars, so Toyota is riding high hopes on Toyota Etios Liva and this car will surely live up to the expectations of the firm. According to the deputy MD of Toyota India, Toyota is aspiring to sell over 1 Lakh Toyota Etios sedans and Toyota Etios Liva by the end of 2012. As per the experts of the auto market, Toyota Etios Liva launch could actually change the market dynamics in the luxury hatchback sector.
