GM topples Toyota's numero uno position
There was a massive and disastrous earthquake in Japan on 11th March this year which affected not only the life of the people there, but also had a negative effect on auto makers. This catastrophic tsunami and earthquake dislocated Toyota Motors from being the top car manufacturer there.

General Motors replaced Toyota Motors on the top position, which was followed by Volkswagen. Finally the third position was given to Toyota Motors subsequently to Renault Nissan and then Hyundai Motors. Toyota Motors hopes that it would do better in the second half of 2011 as many of Toyota’s manufacturing plants are back on track.Toyota has already managed to get back on its feet and recover from the massive market share loss in the booming auto markets like USA and was successful to go ahead of Volkswagen and grabbed the number two position.

Volkswagen, however is Europe’s largest car manufacturer and is expecting to become the world’s largest carmaker by the year 2018. Volkswagen is reworking on its targets and planning to touch the mark of 8 million units per annum, which will surely make Toyota run for its money. The fight for being the top car maker has become very tough and extreme. And Toyota Motors’ production limitations have made things much more tensed. The most competitive market includes China and USA, and it is hoped that Toyota will be back with a bang. The major issues that were faced by Toyota because of tsunami were the supplies.
