    GM to roll out six new cars in India

    One of the most prominent and strong car manufacturers, General Motors (GM) India is planning big for the Indian portfolio owing to the exponential rate of growth observed by this market. The company is looking forward to launch a total of 6 new models in Indian auto market dancing in 14 exclusive variants. The company is planning to commence this launch incoming 2 years. The news has been made public by a top official of the company.

    Karl Slym, General Motors India president and managing director commented that General Motors will bring a total of 14 variants of 6 new models within a period of 2 year. He also announced that out of the 6 new models, company will announce 2 commercial vehicles, making its official entry in 2012. He said that others will be Sports Utility Vehicle and sedan. These vehicles will help the company increase its mark on the Indian auto market and also will mark its entry in alsmost all segments.

    Slym also said that they will display a mini Chevrolet electric car in the month of April 2011. The electric car from General Motors has been produced at the company’s plant based in Bangalore. He, however, denied making any statement on the official date of the launch of this electric car.

    As per the statements made by Slym, GM is planning to achieve a sales target of 2 lakh and 3 lakh cars in 2012 and 2013, respectively. Moreover the officials have said that the company’s manufacturing unit at Halol which at present has a capacity of 85,000 units, will go under expansion process to increase the output to 1.1 lakh units through an investment of $500 million. This huge investment will help the company manufacturing more units every year which will help General Motors meet the growing demand.
