General Motors vice-president reported that the loss of units per day is increasing day by day. There were 900 workmen, out of which 350 members are still not reporting. In the current position, only one shift is going on and thus the loss rate is increasing, the loss so far is bout 600 units. This particular incident is the second incident in Halol in last 5 months.

Last time the strike was due to wage hike, during which 900 workers went on strike and the company has to suffer a huge loss of 450 units. The last strike incident took place in October 29, 2010. The economic survey for the present year states that, Gujarat is facing the maximum number of strikes and other issues due to the hike in wage and other related problems.

Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi always tries to represent the state as the ultimate destination for investment. GM vice president Balendran said that the present condition is due to the inter-union competition. The company earlier had one registered workers body and at the present date, there are two unions which is the only reason for this rivalry.

The strike is basically because of the transfer of four employees. The workers are against this and are on a strike, which has heavily affected the production of the Halol unit. GM India has one more unit in Maharashtra along with the Halol unit. The company manufactures good number of automobiles in the Indian market. The company is trying to solve the Halol rivalry.
