General Motors Musing Over Chevrolet Beat Sedan
The American auto giant, General Motors is mulling over the creating a sedan version of its much-favored hatchback Chevrolet Beat. The company had recently announced that it is soon going to roll out the Sail sedan as the successor of the Chevrolet Aveo sedan. The conception of the Beat sedan can be tracked to the company’s wish of bringing in a small sub 4-meter sedan that can sit below the Sail sedan. The decision regarding the addition of a boot to the Beat hatchback is still pending as the discussions are in the elementary phase only. If the result of the talks is in affirmative then the new Chevrolet Beat sedan would rival the likes of Tata Indigo CS and the upcoming models like Maruti A-Star sedan and Mahindra Verito CS sedan. A lot of efforts need to be put in to improve the front end of the Beat sedan.
Expected to hustle under the hood of the Chevrolet Beat sedan are the 1.2-liter petrol and 1.0-liter diesel engines which in turn would help this car qualify as a small car and would allow it to enjoy the benefit of lower excise duty. Both the engines mentioned will be coupled with a 5-speed gearbox. The 1.2-liter engine has a displacement of 1199cc and is capable of pumping out a power of 82 BHP at 6400 RPM and a torque of 108 Nm at 4400 RPM. On the other hand, the 1.0-liter three-cylinder diesel has a displacement of 936cc and is capable of generating a power of 57 BHP at 4000 RPM and a torque of 150 Nm at 1750 RPM.
GM has not made any official announcement for the same yet and as we know big players keep on considering new ideas and testing new products we should not place any bets or waits on this sedan. But if at all General Motors plan on materializing this idea, the Beat sedan can be expected to be placed in the Rs. 4.5-6.5 lakh bracket and would also offer fabulous fuel efficiency. The current length of the Beat hatchback is 3640mm and thus has a lot of scope for engineers to carve out a decently big boot, but the boot of the sedan version should not be expected to cross 300 liters. The longer wheelbase will enhance the rear legroom of the hatchback Beat which will ultimately allow the Beast sedan to seat 4 people more comfortably.
