General Motors India’s January 2011 Sales grow by 6% at 9984 units

General Motors India has registered a growth of 6% in sales in January 2011, compared to the corresponding period last year. It sold 9984 units in January 2011 against 9421 units in January 2010.

The January 2011 sales comprised 3345 units of Chevrolet Beat, 3272 units of the Chevrolet Spark, , 1691 units of the Chevrolet Tavera, 715 units of the Chevrolet Cruze, 331 units of Chevrolet Aveo U-VA, 296 units of Chevrolet Optra, 243 Units of Chevrolet Aveo and 91 units of the Chevrolet Captiva.

Commenting on the performance, Mr. P. Balendran, Vice President, GM India said,   the increase in sales was primarily driven by the response to Chevrolet Beat, Spark and Cruze. These cars have set benchmarks in their respective segments with the best-in-class design, performance and other product attributes.     Introduction of best-in-segment cars from the 300 series, increase in customer outreach through distribution network, our unique value proposition like Chevrolet Cashless Ownership offer and our promise to deliver quality and performance are the factors that have led to the impressive sales.”

General Motors India recently launched its new locally developed, state-of-the-art 1.2-litre SMARTECH engine demonstrating the true potential of GM’s engineering and manufacturing capability across India. The engine was created by the GM Technical Centre-India in Bangalore in cooperation with GM’s new engine plant in Talegaon. Furthermore, the company has commissioned the power train facility in Talegaon making this the first flexi-engine plant for General Motors globally wherein both petrol and diesel engines are going to be manufactured together.
