General Motors inaugurates new plant in Talegoan, Maharashtra

General Motors, inaugurated an all new flexible- engine unit at Talegaon in Pune. The facility is the first power plant which will manufacture both diesel and petrol engines.

The guests present at the inauguration were Mr. Vilasrao Deshmukh, Union Misiter for Heavy Industries Public Enterprises, Mr. J.P., Dange Chief Secretary of the State, Mr. A.M.Khan Principal Secretary (Industries), Mr. Karl Slym President Managing Director of GM India and other dignitaries.

The facility is built with an investment of 230 million US Dollars. The plant currently has a capacity of 160,000 engines and has plans to expand in future. The facility will manufacture engine for small hatchback passenger cars by GM.

Mr Slym said, that, this will be a new chapter in GM India's profile, as the new unit is promising and it will give a hike in the growing demand for the cars of the company. The small cars Chevrolet Spark and Chevrolet Beat have shown great sales figures recently.

He also added by thanking, Maharashtra Government support and the countrywide employees and was gleaming with joy at the opening of the new facility.

In 2008, August, General Motors stamped an agreement with Maharashtra Government to develop a new manufacturing unit for engines. The engine facility is a state of the art facility in Talegaon.

The car brand General Motors is an established name in India since 14 years, and has successfully completed its operation by introducing technological wonders. Chevrolet cars (sold under GM), an appreciated brand name came in India in 2003. The cars it offers are Chevrolet Beat, Chevrolet Spark, Chevrolet Captiva, Chevrolet Cruze, Chevrolet Optra, Chevrolet Aveo, Chevrolet Aveo U-VA and Chevrolet Tavera.

As per the stats, General Motors India, sold 93,960 cars in first three quarters of 2010 which is a massive growth of 73 per cent if compared with the last year's sale. The US based car maker is the 5th largest automobile producer in India. The company has 205 service outlets and 211 car sales point across India.
