Chevrolet Cruze crosses 2,70,000 units sales mark worldwide

Chevrolet Cruze, a premium range sedan model which was introduced to the world market about 18 months ago has managed to clock sales of as much as 2,70,000 units world wide, so far. Interestingly, General Motors is yet to launch this car in its domestic market in US, which is one of the largest auto markets of the world. Thus, crossing a sales mark of 2,70,000 units worldwide can be considered a big achievement for the company.

The Chevrolet Cruze has been sold in as many as 60 countries across the world besides the local variants of this car sold by GM's subsidiaries like Daewoo and Holden in their domestic markets. According to the company, it managed to sell as many as 1,40,000 units of this car in the current year (2010) including a significant amount of sales in the Indian market.

In the Indian market, the monthly sales of Chevrolet Cruze falls about 800 units on an average which is the highest in the premium sedan segment in India. However, the coming months will be very crucial for Chevrolet Cruze in the Indian market as its closest competitor of this segment,Toyota Corolla Altis has been launched in the diesel version in India. The Corolla Altis model has an extra edge over the Chevrolet Cruze model in the Indian market as it is available in both diesel and petrol versions as compared to Cruze which is only available in the diesel version, currently.

Besides Chevrolet Cruze, the General Motors India currently sells more than half a dozen cars in the Indian market including compact hatchbacks like Chevrolet Beat and Spark, entry level sedan like Chevrolet Aveo, premium sedans like Chevrolet Optra Magnum, SUV's like Chevrolet Tavera and luxury SUV Chevrolet Captiva. It is also expected that the company may launch a diesel version of its Chevrolet Beat in the Indian market by the end of this year.
