Chevrolet Beat Diesel to be launched in June 2011

General Motors is all set to introduce the “Diesel” car model of its popular hatchback Chevrolet Beat in India by June 2011. It was confirmed by a top official from the American auto giant revealed that the Chevrolet Beat Diesel will be launched in this year.

P Balendran the Vice-President- General Motors India stated that Chevrolet Beat Diesel affixed with one litre engine will come by June in this year. Mr Balendran ushered about the launch after revealing the Chevrolet Beat LPG launch. The diesel engine is being developed in Talegaon unit in Maharashtra. General Motors India invested around USD 230 million for the unit with a capacity of 1.60 lakh cars. The company has also invested nearly one million USD till now. He also cleared that with the new variant, the company is increasing the present portfolio.

General Motors is localizing its auto mobiles products with an introduction of new powertrain at Talegaon. in future some of the cars will have more than 95 per cent of its components being made in the country.

When quizzed about the future plans of the company Balendran said that he would launch the Euro-IV model in Chevrolet Tavera in the later part of this year which will ensure 95 per cent localized content. The company is also planing to invest USD 300 million to introduce six car models based on new platform in the two years. The six new car models include a small car, sedan, SUV, pick up truck, MUV and upgraded premium SUV Chevrolet Captiva.

Mr Balendran was also asked about how the company will raise the funds for the investments to which he replied that some from 'loans' and also by internal accruals. He also agreed that the constant increase in the hike of interest rates by the Banks will slow down the growth pace of the auto industry.
