Active Sound Symposer to Grace the 2013 Ford Focus ST
The sport compacts are pretty much applauded by people across the globe and these fans are very well aware of the proper exhaust note as a key ingredient. To the utter delight of the fans of sport compacts the engineers of Ford who are working on the Ford Focus ST 2013 are also aware of its significance and so are affixing the aforementioned hatchback with an ‘active sound symposer’. This active sound symposer is a device that enriches the car with a fitting aural soundtrack.
This device is pretty much on the lines of the sound tube which has been formerly used in the Mustang; the work of the sound tube is to pump sound into the interior from the engine. The system used on the Ford Focus ST is however, more advanced as it is directly attached to the intake pipes and manifold into the cabin in the frequency range of 200 to 450 Hz.
The active sound symposer also sports a valve that is controlled electronically and thus opens and closes on the basis of number of inputs such as speed of the engine, selection of the gear and position of the throttle. The valve of the symposer is set in a way that it acts more aggressively in the lower gears and less aggressively in the higher gears that ensures better and quieter cruising on the freeways. The 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbo-four engine of the new Ford Focus ST will now produce a muscular baritone soundtrack audible to both onlookers and occupants in addition to the 252 HP of power and 270 lb-ft of torque.
