Who could be the winner- Ford EcoSport or Maruti's XA Alpha concept?

Both Maruti Suzuki India and Ford India have finally brought their own compact SUVs to the forefront at the 2012 Auto Expo. Agreed that the XA Alpha which is what Maruti likes to call its compact SUV, is still a concept but, it definitely gives an insight as to how the compact SUV in future is going to look like. Now, that we have the potential competitors right in front of us, this takes us to a common question which SUV would you vote for.

Clearly each of us might have our own opinions where both are quite unique looking in their own terms. Though one important point is still missing with both the compact SUVs which is price or rather any hint on the pricing. Looks wise, Ford EcoSport too sports a prominent grille and rather sharp looking headlamps with a contrasting bumper design to stand out among the rest. Maruti compact SUV concept, the XA Alpha however surpasses the imaginations. The grille is a lot different than we usually see; one might either become a fan of it or could develop an outright dislike for it, although it could hold a great appeal if one wishes to be different from the rest and ready to dare the risk of being different.

For Ford EcoSport, the America based auto major has introduced the new 1.0 L EcoBoost petrol engine for the first time in the compact SUV with some promising performance equalling the 1.6 L capacity petrol engine. The 1.5 L powertrain fills in for the diesel option. Ford EcoSport price however could be around Rs 8 lakh mark. Coming to the Maruti XA Alpha concept which could be ages before we see the SUV in reality might gain points with the petrol motor if Maruti India decides to power it with a 1.2 L petrol engine like in Maruti Ritz, while the 1.3 L multijet diesel powertrain could be the potential choice of MSI for the concept. So, let’s wait until we get the hands on complete details to predict the possible champion.
