Since its Indian debut in 2012, the BMW-owned Mini brand has sold just 1,123 units till the end of last year. So, lack of demand seems like the primary reason behind the termination of Countryman’s assembling. However, BMW cites generation change of the model is the basis. Now, all Mini models currently sold in India follow the completely built-up unit (CBU) import route only.

India is the 100th market for the iconic brand and so far, has proved to be not-so-successful in terms of numbers. Other such offerings including the likes of Volkswagen Beetle and Fiat 500 also failed to attract many buyers. Though, new generation model of both these cars will re-enter the Indian market soon.

BMW’s current portfolio in India that is produced locally at its only plant in Chennai includes the 1 Series, 3 Series, 3 Series Gran Turismo, 5 Series, 7 Series, X1, X3 and the X5. To read the complete story, click here
