Mahindra Scorpio: Old vs New
Scorpio has taken a big leap forward, the new Scorpio that looks rather a facelift is a brand new vehicle apart from the carried over styling. As they say, you don't change what people love, cars like Safari, Swift as you have seen haven't change their overall proportions in facelifts, reason - loved for their styling. And Scorpio is also in this list along with numerous cars across the globe like Mustang, Camaro, Mini Cooper, Jeep Wrangler, etc. Now, back to the topic! Lets see what Mahindra has done with the new Scorpio.
A Brand New Platform
Compared to the old lad, the new-generation Scorpio rides on a brand new modular platform which is hydroformed. Hydroformed construction makes it more stiffer and structurally rigid and on the same time the new chassis is 2 kilos lighter compared to its predecessor. Also it's a modular frame, being easily modified can also make it foray into future Mahindra products. MM has also incorporated new suspension setup to the new Scorpio which they call it 'cushion suspension technology' along with anti-roll regulation. All this will certainly make Scorpio more tamed and mannered on the road with reduced body roll which the previous-gen was prone too. Scorpio continued to carry the potent 2.2 liter mHawk engine that produces healthy 120bhp and 280Nm of torque and is mated to a new 5-speed gearbox with improved shifts.
Design: A Subtle Makeover
Scorpio has gained a new face, a more European looking facade, starting with new angular headlamps, new honeycombed grille and edgier bumper. The only thing that Mahindra took from the previous Scorpio at the front are the fog lamps and on the side – the doors and the rear gets similar tail-lamp design but in brand new avatar.
The front headlights feature projector headlamps with static bending that lit-up the corner as you take turns and the day-time-running-LED eyebrows gloat on the headlamp cluster. The rear has a new large plastic appliqué in the rear door and sports a sexy looking twin-LED 'D' shaped taillamps and there's a nice little Scorpio badging inside the lamps!
Interiors: Contemporary Additions
Though few styling cues on the exteriors are carried over like the doors but on the inside the decade old dashboard is gone and in-comes a new! The biggest change is a new 6-inch touch screen infotainment system that even guides you if your lost with its built-in satellite navigation! Another big add-on is the fully automatic air conditioning.
A new instrumentation cluster which looks like two hexagonals joined together and in between the two hexa rings you get a large driver multi-information screen.
