Jaguar XE Diesel Bookings Underway

Have you been eyeing the Jaguar XE but didn’t go through because there was no diesel variant on offer? Good news! The British carmaker has started accepting bookings for the diesel variant of the XE sedan. Dealers are accepting the booking amount of Rs 2 lakh for Jaguar’s least expensive diesel car in India. The company has confirmed that all its 24 authorised dealerships across the country are now entertaining bookings for the XE diesel.

Powering the sedan will be the same 2.0-litre Ingenium motor that does duty in the bigger XF sedan and in the F-Pace SUV. The 1,999cc engine is expected to pump out the same oomph as its bigger sibling, i.e. 180PS of power and 430Nm of torque. Transmission duties shall be handled by Jaguar’s eight-speed automatic gearbox only. Until now, the XE was only available with the 2.0-litre petrol mill, in two states of tune - 200PS/320Nm and 240PS/340Nm. With the introduction of the diesel engine in the XE’s portfolio, Jaguar hopes to attract a wider audience for its baby sedan.

Positioned to rival the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the Audi A4, the Jaguar XE has been off to a slow start in India. Another manufacturer that is trying to make its case is Volvo, with its S60 sedan. To outgun all its competition, the Tata-owned brand has to price it aggressively. We expect Jaguar to launch the XE diesel later this month priced around Rs 42-45 lakh.
