Comparison: Abarth Punto Evo vs Ford Figo vs Volkswagen Polo GT

Just when you thought that Volkswagen group could not have a worse day, the Italians are gearing-up to charge-in. Things didn’t get easy for Volkswagen when Ford launched its Figo hatchback, which blew the German hatch’s 0-100kmph acceleration figures out of the water. But the American automaker wasn’t free of competition as of yet, as the Italian automaker is launching its next addition to the Abarth India’s portfolio, the Abarth Punto Evo. The car drenched in scorpion insignias boasts of impressive performance figures, but seeing how every contender has something or the other going for them, we’ve decided to pitch these cars against each other.

The Looks

Abarth Punto EVO flaunts Abarth insignias on the bonnet and the tailgate. The car features sporty decals with Abarth lettering and the hard-to-un-notice scorpion pincer alloy wheels. The dual-color paint job also helps tie the car together, while maintaining its sporty appeal. Ford’s little hatch does not fall short of swagger either, the Aston Martin lookalike grille with its chrome horizontal bars bestows the car with a plush premium feel. The car also comes with 7 different colors for you to choose from and most of them are shared with the upcoming Mustang.

The Polo TSI GT sticks to its foundations when it comes to design. The aesthetic updates only include GT badging that manages to wedge its way all around the car.

The Price

The Abarth Punto is expected to be priced under the Rs. 10 lac mark and in comparison to the VW Polo that is priced at Rs. 8.4 lac and Figo priced at Rs. 7.1 lac, the Americans have managed to undercut the competition in terms of price and empirically, value-for-money. If this happens, this will be India’s first ever hot hatch because we are talking numbers here, 145 to be precise at the disposal of your right foot.

The Grunt

With the statistics that have been revealed, we have come to know that the Abarth punto Evo will feature a 1.4 liter 145bhp engine. The power-plant will produce a whopping power output but in comparison to the mileage and power figures offered by the Ford Figo, it is really difficult to be partial to a particular hatch. Ford Figo manages to produce 111bhp of power, trumping that of VW Polo, which stands at 104bhp. The Volkswagen Polo GT TSI is still trying to hold its own by offering limited editions and updates, especially the ones that are being released around the festive season.
