Kiminobu Tokuyama, MD and CEO, Nissan Motor India stated in an interview that Nissan is studying the feasibility of introducing Nissan Leaf in the Indian market and have an aggressive launch plan in pipeline. He refrained from laying out a timeline owing to the dependency on Indian government for introducing eco friendly cars in India. Tokuyama clarified that Nissan expects government initiative in form of infrastructure and subsidies which they have received in other countries to make Nissan Leaf commercially viable. Nissan has already created a stable market with their Nissan Micra and Sunny models. Micra bagged sale of 1,855 units, while Nissan Sunny accounted for 3,218 units.
