Will you be happy to see entire engine line-up from Polo to be offered with the upcoming compact sedan?

Update: There has been a lot of revamps and upgraded versions of popular car seen at the Auto Expo 2016, but the German automaker Volkswagen brought out a new model dubbed as Volkswagen Ameo. This new car would be entering the sub-4 metre compact sedan category, a segment which already has a lot of competitors in the form of Honda Amaze, Maruti Swift Dzire and Chevrolet Sail. Made for India, Volkswagen Ameo looks beautiful and will be available in two engine options including 1.2 litre diesel 3 cylinder MPI petrol and the TDI diesel with 1.5 litre capacity. Click to read more about the VW Ameo at Auto Expo.

Polo got a subtle facelift last year and featured a new diesel engine in both stock and GT version. Though, it was involved in the recent emission scandal the recent emission scandal, the engine is torquiest of the lot and packs enough punch! Now, as the upcoming compact sedan is en route to 2016 Indian Auto Expo, we are trying to figure out whether it will borrow the entire set of engines from the Polo or not, as all the engines fall under the tax regulations. Since VW has not revealed its name, for the time being, we’ll call it CS. However, rumour has it, it will be called Ameo

Starting with the diesel, the 90 PS version from Polo TDi is most likely to be offered. The 1498 cc diesel motor produces 90 PS @ 4200 rpm and a max torque of 230 Nm in between 1500 - 2500 rpm, coupled to a 5-speed MT. Moreover, a sportier version of CS is hard to imagine, so it is unlikely that Polo GT's/Vento’s 105 PS version of 1.5-liter TDi will be made available with it. This said 7-Speed dual clutch automatic DSG gearbox is only available with 105 PS version. Then there is a possibility that automaker might also offer if DSG is on the cards with CS.

Undoubtedly, the 1.2-liter naturally aspirated 3-cylinder motor will be offered with it. The engine generates 75 PS @ 5400 rpm and 110 Nm of peak torque mated to a 5-speed manual box. What is yet to be seen is the 1.2-liter TSI from Polo GT/Vento will be offered with CS or not? The motor musters 105 PS @ 5000 rpm and 175 Nm of max torque in between 1500-4100 rpm.

If Volkswagen does offer all the engine and transmission options mentioned above, then it will be the only compact sedan in the country to offer maximum no number of engine and transmission options. The sales figures in the compact sedan segment weren’t exciting off lately, it would be great to have maximum no number of engine and transmission options if you're a late entrant!
