Volkswagen Phaeton facelift coming in 2015
Despite the classy look of the sedan, Volkswagen Phaeton sales had remained dull over the past few years. However, the luxury brand envisages launching the revamped version of the sedan by 2015 according to an insider report. Codenamed as VW631, the sedan is expected to be built based on the modular longitudinal platform (MLP). Volkawagen plans to launch a hybrid version based on the 2015 revamped model in future is also reported.

The outgoing Volkswagen Phaeton is equipped with a powerful V8, V10 or a W12 engine. While reducing the capacity of such powerful engine is not recommended as the current trend in the market lies with the big, powerful and majestic engines. However, the engine is expected to be tuned to enable better performance with respect to mileage. The new Volkswagen Phaeton MK II is likely to be positioned between the Audi A6 and Audi A8 in the luxury segment, in a way avoiding the direct competition with the ace players in the segment, BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

The new sedan is expected to have the same luxurious interiors as that of the outgoing model. Few modifications in terms of electronics and better handling of the car is likely. Though Volkswagen had planned to unveil the concept car in the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, the initial plan had been postponed for some unforeseen reasons. The company now foresees to showcase the Concept D model in the Los Angeles International auto show towards the year end. Volkswagen also has plans to introduce their small car Volkswagen UP! during next year.
