Volkswagen contemplates to bring Seat to India

Volkswagen’s dream to become the number one car manufacturer in the world seems to be more closer than ever before. Though not known by many, Volkswagen has a Spanish subsidiary Seat under its wing, which it hopes to introduce in the country by the looks of it. However, before making any such drastic move, the German car manufacturer intends to test the waters in the China market. Now about the timelines as to when the car manufacturer will find the time ideal for Seat’s India foray is still unknown. But, what we do have, is an inkling over what Seat models it could bring in for the domestic markets.

Volkswagen seems to have worked out on the strategy as well, with Seat Ibiza placed in the same level as Volkswagen Polo from its own fleet. Then it also has Exeo sedan to occupy the slot between Volkswagen Jetta and Volkswagen Passat, which seems to be more like a D-segment sedan. Seat also has an Alhambra MPV to sit in the direct competition with Toyota Innova in the Indian car market. Except for few cars like Exeo sedan which are way out of the path, Seat cars are more known for its budget price. So, Volkswagen’s plans seem to be more in line with the Indian car demands for the economically priced cars. What more, we have been seeing the common platform sharing between the Skoda and Volkswagen with Skoda Rapid especially.

By the looks of it, the concept is going to be there for a while. This means, there is enough fire between the two car manufacturers where any growth on the cards will be distributed among themselves. So, Volkswagen will have to come up with something to show some real growth on the board. While on the other hand, Seat will not only hold a fresher appeal in the country, it will also work as a separate entity to garner growth in India. One should not forget Seat’s plans to bring the Mii small car, a rebadged version of Volkswagen Up! if and when the time permits.
