VinFast Opens Its First Manufacturing Plant In India In Tamil Nadu, VinFast VF7 Is The First Car To Be Rolled Out

It is not long until VinFast debuts its first EV in India as the VF7, is expected to launch this festive season. The Vietnamese carmaker had invested Rs 4,000 crore for its first manufacturing plant in Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu, the operations of which commenced today on August 4, 2025. Along with this, the VF7 has become the first-ever car to roll out from the carmaker’s brand new facility. However, the VF7 is not the only car to be launched in India as it will be followed by the smaller VF6, the pre-bookings of which are open alongside the VF7.
More About The Manufacturing Plant
The new VinFast manufacturing facility is spread across 400 acres in Thoothukudi at the State Industrial Park Of Tamil Nadu Industrial Promotion Corporation (SIPCOT). It has an annual production capacity of 1.5 lakh units per year and will employ up to 3,500 people to manage the duties.
Notably, VinFast has invested Rs 4,000 crore already in the manufacturing plant, which will be spread over the next 5 years. Moreover, the carmaker has planned to infuse a total of Rs 16,000 crore in the coming times. For now, these manufacturing plants will be assembling the VF7 and VF6, until VinFast introduces other models in the nation.

As mentioned earlier, the VinFast VF7 will be the first car from the Vietnamese carmaker to be launched in India. In terms of its exterior design, it gets an aggressive styling with LED projector headlights, signature LED DRLs and wraparound LED tail lights. Inside, it gets a dual-tone cabin with leatherette materials used extensively on all major touchpoints. It gets a clean dashboard layout with a driver-focused 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a head-up display for essential driving data. It also gets an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, ventilated front seats, dual-zone auto AC and panoramic glass roof.

VinFast VF6
After the VF7, VinFast will be launching the VF6 which is a smaller model and locks horns with compact SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta Electric and Mahindra BE 6. The VF6 gets cleaner design elements compared to the bigger eSUV. It gets connected LED DRLs, projector headlights and a full-width LED tail light setup. Inside, it gets a dual-tone dark brown and black interior with the same touchscreen and HUD as the VF7.
The powertrain details for India are also not confirmed yet, but internationally it is available in two versions, which is expected to be carried over to the India-spec model. Here are the specs:

Expected Price And Rivals
The VinFast VF7 is expected to be priced from Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom). It will rival the Hyundai Ioniq 5, BYD Sealion 7 and BMW iX1 LWB in India.
On the other hand, the VinFast VF6 could be priced at around Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom) and it will lock horns with the Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV and also the upcoming Maruti e Vitara.
