Swift Dzire Diesel AMT Spied!

A few pictures have surfaced of a rather special Swift Dzire. On the outside, it looks like any other Swift Dzire ZDi - absolutely no changes on the exterior. However, the photographer has managed to click the interiors, which reveals something that should make the Tata Zest sweat. The only change to the interior is the AMT gear lever. The interiors continue to sport the beige and black combo we are used to seeing on the compact sedan.

We do not expect Maruti to make any change to the Dzire’s existing diesel engine. We reckon it should continue to sport the 1.3l DDiS engine with a fixed geometry turbo. Power figures should be in the ballpark of 75bhp and 190Nm of torque, identical to the manual version. The Dzire diesel is currently the most fuel efficient diesel car on the market, with an ARAI claimed 26.59km/l. This already impressive figure may be expected to go even higher with the AMT box.

The version spied is the top-spec ZDi version which means it should come equipped airbags and ABS. We seriously hope Maruti Suzuki does not skimp out on safety features in order to keep the costs for the AMT variant lower. The Dzire got a facelift very recently featuring smoked headlamps, restyled bumpers and a distinctive chrome grille. The Dzire should be the first among a slew of AMT offerings from the Manesar motor giant. We can expect the AMT box to find it’s way into the WagonR, Swift and maybe even the Ertiga.

The Tata Zest won't be the only diesel automatic on offer anymore. It remains to be seen if Honda or Hyundai come up with automatic diesel variants of their respective compact sedans.
