The Skoda Kylaq is a newcomer in the sub-4-metre SUV segment and has indeed proven itself as a performance-oriented and fun-to-drive SUV. It is the first-ever sub-4 metre SUV from our Czech friends and comes equipped with a punchy 1-litre turbo petrol engine. On the other hand, its rival Renault Kiger also packs a similarly sized turbo-petrol engine. But which one packs more punch on the road?
To find out, we put both engines through our stringent real-world tests to see which one comes out on top, and before we see how the results fared, here’s a quick spec check:

As visible, the Kylaq’s turbo petrol engine is paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox, and it puts out 15 PS and 18 Nm more than the Kiger’s powertrain setup. Let’s check out the results now:

Although both SUVs feature a 1-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with a manual transmission, the Skoda Kylaq turned out to be noticeably quicker in our tests. It completed the 0 to 100 kmph run in 10.41 seconds, which is 0.6 seconds faster than the Kiger. The gap widened in the quarter-mile test, where the Kylaq clocked 17.33 seconds while the Kiger finished in 17.90 seconds.

The Kylaq also proved to be the stronger performer in braking. It came to a standstill from 100 kmph in 39.43 metres, which is over 6 metres shorter than the Kiger’s 45.55 metres. A similar result was seen in the 80 to 0 kmph test, where the Kylaq stopped in 24.32 metres compared to the Kiger’s 27.33 metres.
