Vehicles have long been a true reflection of the progress of man. The innovations in the field of auto have been paralleled by very few. To commemorate the humble beginning of the automobile, the 29th of January is celebrated as ‘World Automobile Day’. On this day in 1886, the first motorcar was patented by Karl Benz.

The first motor car to be patented was a tri-car; with the patent being filed for a ‘gas-powered vehicle’. The car harbored a single cylinder, four-stroke engine that churned out 0.75 horsepower and was capable of a top speed of 16km/h. While this  does seem minuscule by today's standards, it did set the ball rolling for a slurry of innovations that have made the automobile what it is today.

Czech auto-giant, Skoda, is amongst the oldest brands in the world. The maker has constantly kept up with the times, delivering what the market has demanded. On World Automotive Day, Skoda India has released a concise video they call ‘Legacy of Skoda’. The video takes us through the journey of Czech automaker from inception till date.

The timeline starts at 1899 when the first L&K Slavia Bike debuted and also showcases the Type CCD Moto. Then on, the video takes us through important milestones in Skoda’s manufacturing journey. It showcases all important Skodas like the L&K Voiturette A, the 110, the 860, the original Skoda Rapid, as well as the Octavia of the yesteryear's.

However, what caught our attention, was the 2015 Skoda Superb being teased towards the end of the video. This is amongst the first time that Skoda India has officially teased the new Superb

The new Skoda Superb has been built on Volkswagen’s new MQB platform. On the engine front: expect a  1.8 litre and 2.0 litre TSI petrol motor. The diesel engine, in all probability, will be the tried and tested 2.0 TDi motor that does duty on the Octavia.
