Second Generation VW Santana launched in China
The Volkswagen Santana is undoubtedly a very successful model in China. The notchback saloon has a record 4 million units sold in its 29 years of existence on the Chinese roads. And now VW have introduced the next generation of the Santana as a completely re-vamped car. The new Santana features quite a few changes, the most noticeable of which is its intelligent space concept. The Santana has a wheel-base of 2,603mm which hands out more leg room to the rear passengers and also maximizes the storage capacity which is now at 480-litres.
According to VW, the key focal points taken into consideration while developing the Santana were safety, comfort and appearance. This is evident in the features that the vehicle has been calibrated with which include ABS, front, side and head airbags, ESC electronic stabilisation programme, Climate control, electric sliding sunroof, alloy wheels, parking sensors and leather upholstery - which are either standard or optional depending on the equipment line. In China, the Santana is available in the Trendline, Comfortline and Highline versions.
In terms of mechanics, the new Santana is powered by 2 engine choices. There is the 1.4-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that hands out 89bhp while the 1.6-litre petrol engine of the same configuration hands out 108bhp.
