Reduce costs, deliver timely, Mahindra asks suppliers
The cost cutting saga that hit the IT sector seems to be on its spree in the car industry in India as well. Mahindra Group reportedly asked the parts suppliers to pitch in efforts to reduce costs. Meanwhile, the SUV Company also expressed the need to ensure timely delivery of parts so that production does not get hit. Possible reason for such concerns could be the rise in interest rates and high input costs. Recently, Mahindra had organized a conference of over 150 Indian and foreign suppliers in Korea.

At the meet Mahindra is also said to have asked the suppliers to step up their capacity so as to cater to the rise in demand in the future. Mahindra also reportedly invited the suppliers to participate in the efforts to bring down the costs. Besides, the SUV maker also discussed aspects of designing that could make its cars perform better besides control, capacity building of the supply chain. The meet also discussed input cost challenges in the wake of rise in commodity prices. Following the rise input costs are said to have increased by 8-10 percent. Such a trend is also observed globally, said sources. Moreover, means to bring down the cost without compromising technology and new process was also discussed. The meet also shared views on the efforts to build up image of the Indian car industry abroad.

The meet was organized for the second year and it included participation of the supplier community belonging to both the automotive as well the farm divisions including Swaraj division, Mahindra Navistar besides, 30 suppliers of SsangYong. Notably, Mahindra group is into almost ten businesses in India and abroad and it has given some of the best cars to India including recently launched Mahindra Verito, best seller Mahindra Bolero and SUV Mahindra Scorpio. Besides this, Mahindra is also planning to bring in SsangYong cars in India.
