Nissan Micra, the much awaited small car in the Indian market, is today unveiled for the first time in the country at a ceremony held in Mumbai. The company has signed Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor as its brand ambassador. However, official launching will be done in the next month.

While unveiling Micra, Nissan's first made-in-India small car, Mr Kiminobu Tokuyama, Nissan Motor India managing director and chief executive officer, told reporters that it was an important and memorable day for Nissan India and its partner Hover Automotive. He was delighted to announce that Ranbir Kapoor is company's brand ambassador, after unveiling Micra, its first made-in-India small car. Ranbir would endorse all Nissan's products and services beginning with Micra, he added.

The Nissan Micra is expected to be available in 4 petrol variants and a diesel variant. The model comes for the first time in its segment, i key and push button start and stop facility, something that is usually found in luxurious cars only. The car can be booked at any Nissan dealership across India with an initial amount of Rs 50,000 which is 100% refundable.

The company has already announced that it is going to start the delivery of Micra in India form July 15th and around 400 units of this car have already been booked. The Japanese company is aiming to produce about 80,000 units of the car for the Indian market in Financial Year 2010-2011. These units will be produced for both exports and domestic sales, Mr Tokuyama said. The company is manufacturing the Nissan Micra model at its Chennai facility which has an annual manufacturing capacity of 2 lakh units that will be increased to 4 lakh units in coming months.

While elaborating the company's plans of exporting this model in foreign market, Mr Tokuyama said that exports at this stage would be greater than the domestic market. But it does not necessarily mean that the company is prioritising exports. Both the India market and the emerging markets are important to Nissan.
