Automotive Science Group (ASG) has announced that the 2015 Nissan Leaf is the Best All-Round Performance Car in USA. The Japanese Electric Vehicle won the prestigious award against more than 1,400 car models. Nissan Leaf also received the Best Environmental Performance title from ASG.

While in the compact car category Ford Focus Electric won the eminent award with Chevrolet Volt coming on fifth. Also another Japanese car Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid made its way to the top five of mid-size cars. Tesla Model S leads the full-size car category, while Ford C-Max Energi won the Wagon category.

The Nissan Leaf won the Environmental Performance title from ASG, as the study found that the car holds smallest carbon footprint compared to other automobiles available in the United States.

ASG on giving award to Nissan Leaf said, “While the electricity mix of the US grid varies by region, the average forecasted mix for 2015 will provide an energy source for the Nissan LEAF that is environmentally preferred over conventional combustion engines. Looking forward, energy forecasts identify a cleaner electricity mix across the US grid, further increasing the environmental benefits of electric technologies in future years.”

From an economic standpoint, 2015 Chevrolet Spark was found to hold the lowest cost of ownership over a five-year long time. Nissan Leaf has also won the ASG’s Best All-Around Performer in 2014 and with Nissan working towards a greener future, the car might make a hat-trick in 2016.
