This new Maruti model will follow the R3 concept which is being built by Maruti in India. The new model is likely to be priced around Rs 7-9 lakh. Earlier in January this year, Maruti had displayed its R3 Concept model at the Delhi Auto Expo 2010. The R3 that was showcased at the Delhi Auto Expo is a six-passenger compact model which has three rows of seats and also hinged rear doors. The model is made on the stretched Suzuki SX4 platform. Maruti Suzuki R3 will provide the option of four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines to the Indian customers. The option of compressed natural gas will also be there. Rakesh Batra, auto partner at Ernst and Young said that the competition has grown bigger in comparison to what it was 5 years ago. They are now stepping in MUVs. This is a clean sign of extending product lineup, added Batra.

Maruti’s MUV R3 can prove to be a volume sales model for the company as Volkswagen intends to sell the model under its own brand also. Skoda is also planning to use the similar platform for making its MUV for the emerging markets. In next 2-3 months , the test mule of R3 concept will arrive after which the model will also be displayed to Volkswagen.

Is it really Maruti suzuki's concept, as per me (I may be wrong) it looks to be slightly dressed up version of New OPEL/VAUXHALL NEW MERIVA launched this year in Europe. May be its exchange deal done with opel for Splash/Ritz & Wagon r for Opel/Vauxhal Agila which is slighly changed and rebadged.
