    Maruti Suzuki awarded for Significant Achievement in Sustainability

    Maruti Suzuki India, was honoured with “Significant Achievement in Sustainability Award” in the CII ITC Sustainability award ceremony in New Delhi on 30 November 2010. The CII-ITC, the Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Development which conducts 'the Sustainability Awards', they are established to recognize distinctive work of the companies for their achievement in the sustainability criterion in economic, social and environmental.

    S Y Siddiqui, the Managing Executive Officer in the HR & Admin department of Maruti Suzuki India accepted the award from the reputable and honourable Pawan Kumar Bansal, the Union Minister for Water Resources and Parliamentary Affairs.

    S. Y. Siddiqui, expressing his views he said that, the award has been given to the company for sustainability which has various outlooks such as corporate governance, long term growth in business with considerable profits, balancing with the employee well-being along with other stakeholders. He added that, Maruti India has always believed in these ideology since 27 years. He further said that, the approach in Maruti Suzuki remains the core of our plan and strategy and also the partners. It is a vital part of the work culture in Maruti.

    The recognition to Maruti is the mirror of its continuous hardwork and efforts for a better environmental and social performance. Maruti Suzuki India has gone out of the way to bring eco friendly technologies such as K-series engine which is fuel efficient, the launch of 5 factory fitted with CNG model with i-GPI engine technology. Also 9 cars from Maruti comes with End of Life Vehicles (ELV) under the recycling norms, accounts to 85 and more per cent can be recycled. Though, the ELV norms are not established in India.

    Maruti aims at declining the overall impact of the company production activity in the environment. The facilities are equipped with Compressed Natural Gas for the power generation which fulfil the needs Manesar and Gurgaon production unit.

    Maruti India visions at the road safety in its flagship Corporate Social Responsibility arena. The company owns 100 or more Maruti Driving Schools in India. The company has four Institutes which is for the Driving and Traffic Research (IDTR) in collaboration with the government of state.

    The Indian auto maker is also involved in community services around the Manesar unit. The Maruti India runs community development programmes and has also taken responsibility for four villages in Manesar.
