Mahindra's SsangYong Rexton SUV caught in lenses
Renowned Indian utility manufacturer, Mahindra has shown a successful stint with its class apart crossover Mahindra XUV 500. Emphasizing on the new beginning, the auto major will introduce a new SsangYong SUV Rexton at the 2012 Auto Expo in India. Now, we have handful of details of the upcoming SUV after being spotted on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, clearly showing the company’s efforts on its extensive testing program.

Though the car was spotted multiple times, this is the first time to appear undisguised. Mahindra Rexton clearly shows a strong similarity with the Mercedes-Benz M Class sedan without curbing the powerful looks of an SUV. The new SUV with Mahindra Rexton price of Rs 18 lakhs sits right in the premium SUV segment to take head on with Chevrolet Captiva and Toyota Fortuner.

Mahindra has acquired the Korean car manufacturer, SsangYong, which specializes in the SUV segment and Rexton is the first car to bring new dimensions to the partnership. The new SUV from SsangYong has the capacity to accommodate seven passengers quite comfortably. The details on the Rexton engine are still vague tough. The 2.4 L turbocharged diesel engine is however an option with the capability to produce a peak power of 184 PS and 240 Nm peak torque. A Mahindra XUV 500 2.2 L mHawk engine option cannot be ruled out either.
