Mahindra Thar has been launched today (21st December) by one of India's biggest names in the auto mobile industry, Mahindra & Mahindra. The jeep like SUV is priced at Rs 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom), New Delhi and in Jaipur with a price tag of Rs 4.47 lakh (ex-showroom), New Delhi. Mahindra Thar will be unfolded in five cities across India by the end of December and by January 2011, it will be launched across India.

Mahindra Thar will be unfolded in five cities across India by the end of December and by January 2011, it will be launched across India. The sturdy and stylish SUV Mahindra Thar, is a true off roader which is affixed with 2500 cc along with four cylinder diesel injection common rail powertrain which is sure to crush the road really hard. The classic jeep will fetch a massive power of 107 KW crushing the gravel beneath the machine.
Mahindra has already launched the jeep in the South African auto market and is doing quite well there and with the over whelming response, the Indian auto giant wished to create the same magic in the Indian SUV segment also. All those who were missing the fun to move through the rough roadways will get the experience back with the brand new gypsy, Mahindra Thar caters to them. The jeep aficionados will get nostalgic as Mahindra Thar will remind them of MM550 and MM540. The new generation jeep from Mahindra stands for being tyrant on road, offers endurance and accomplished driving pleasure on hardest of the terrains. The tough on road Mahindra Thar is a super power SUV 4x4 drive equipped with 2.5 litre CRDe engine affixed with five speed manual transmission. The power it bells out is 105 bhp @ 3800 rm. With the all new jeep like SUV, bad terrains are no more of hazard as it comes with an approach angle of 46 degrees and departure angle of 30 degrees with 200 mm of the ground clearance. The suspension in the SUV has independent torsion bar suspension in the front the same in Mahindra Scorpio and the leaf spring suspension at the rear same in Mahindra Bolero.

first i think the thar would be an excellent alternative to the gypsy... being a diesel engine... secondly, i think mahindra should have different variants available like ac/non ac , power window/non power windows, hard top/ soft top,fog lamps , even factory fitted winches during bookings or pre order....that ways it would satisfy all customers... maybe it'll make maruti suzuki take notice and bring out an improved gypsy with the K series engine in both petrol and diesel variants... that would be a lotta fun...
WAIT WAIT.... BEFORE PURCHASING THIS THAR JUST IMAGINE YOU ARE DRIVING IN APRIL - MAY SUMMER AT 12 - 2 PM TIME, WITHOUT AC. N AMPLE OF DUST...!!! I HAVE NEVER THOUGHT OF THESE MAHINDRA ENGINEERS HAVE NO FAITH TOWORDS THAR OWNERS... THEY ARE JUST TRYING TO MAKE MONEY ON LOOKS OF THIS OFF ROADER, AC IS MUST NOW A DAYS OTHERWISE U CANNT EVEN DRIVE THIS VEHICLE AT AFTERNOONS OF APRIL AND MAY. ..... I HOPE U WILL THINK OF THIS B4 BUYING... N MAHINDRA SHOULD SERIOUSLY THINK OF DELIVERING QUALITY N FEATURES OTHERWISE OTHERS ARE THEIR TO FULLFILL THESE LAPSES AS SUZUKI IS LAUANCHING ITS OFF ROADER SUV SHORTLY.
