Mahindra's next generation Bolero was spotted testing in Germany recently. The test mule was also spotted numerous times in India. Mahindra has given the Bolero a complete overhaul – on style as well as mechanical grounds. The launch is expected later next year after the automaker's highly anticipated compact SUV codename S101. Bolero has been topping the sales chart in Mahindra's portfolio and is certainly a key product for the company. This is the first major revamp since its inception in 2001.

Speaking of the changes, the next-gen Bolero is set to be riding on a new ladder frame chassis with bettered ride and handling. The overall design is more streamlined compared to ongoing MUV though retaining the essence of Bolero. The front portion is certainly getting the new Mahindra grille that company might introduce with new-gen Scorpio that is coming next week. Expect a completely revamped dashboard along with added goodies. The roofline is a sloping one and we wish those gen-first Scorpio taillamps are definitely for testing purpose only!

On the engine front, Bolero is set to receive a new diesel engine, probably an uprated and refined version of what is under Quanto's bonnet. The three-cylinder turbo diesel in Quanto generates a healthy 100bhp and 240Nm of torque, a massive upgrade compared to current Bolero's motor. The next-gen Bolero is also expected to receive a new petrol engine that Mahindra is co-developing with SsangYong. The family of petrol engines will be used by both Mahindra and SsangYong.
