Rub your eyes in disbelief. We know we did exactly that! What you see in the pictures is indeed the fifth-generation of one of the most iconic British off-roading marquees. Land Rover has released a set of photographs that let us take a look at the new Disco ahead of its official unveil.

The design is a radical departure from what we have seen on old Discovery models, that were as boxy as my wardrobe. Half a decade ago, the new design theme debuted with the Evoque, and was subsequently dished out to other models in the automaker's portfolio. The newest Land Rover in the roster, the Discovery Sport, follows similar cues, too. The straight lines have been swapped out for a set of clean curves that manage to highlight the sheer bulk of the car.

While the upright lines and square headlamps have been done away with, there is no mistaking the Discovery for anything else. In case you missed it, the fifth-generation continues the age old tradition and proudly wears 'D I S C O V E R Y' badging on the bonnet. The slender LED headlamps and the daytime running lights make it look like a family member of the current crop of Land Rovers and Range Rovers. Trademark SUV elements, such as a massive ground clearance and the customary skidplate are in check as well.

Land Rover have traded in the conventional SUV looks for a more, urban-audience friendly-crossover theme. While we adored the Discovery 4 for its unapologetic 'yes I look like a school bus, but I can trample you' design, the Discovery 5 looks rather tame at first glance. We hope we are proven wrong when we get behind the wheel, though! The new Discovery will be officially unveiled at the Paris Motor Show that kicks off in October 2016. It will definitely make its way to Indian shores, but we expect that to happen only late next year.
